I was born in Yorkshire in 1944 and raised on the coast in Kent. In 1957 the purchase of a guitar from a local pawnshop got me started on the rocky road of rock and roll. From 1959 I was appearing in local cafes and folk clubs, early influences being Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee, Jimmy Witherspoon, Leadbelly and other folk / blues artists.
Moving on to electric guitar around 1962 I played in local bands often opening for such artists as, Johnny Kidd and the Pirates...Zoot Money's Big Roll Band.. and others. In 1965 I moved to London to begin a career in music that is still going today in 2013. In the early days I worked the folk and blues clubs with a fine harmonica player Moxie and also I was hired as a sideman for various chart artists touring England and Europe. 1968 was the year my song writing took off and I was signed, with my band "Mayfield's Mule" to E.M.I. records, and was able to record at Abbey Road studios through 1970, releasing several singles and recording an album on the Parlophone label.
In 1971 I joined up with ex Experience bass player Noel Redding for a musical adventure with Norman Hale and some other buddys.
In 1972 I moved to Amsterdam and spent some years playing acoustic blues in cafes, bars and gigs like the Paradiso and on down to blues and folk clubs in Germany.
In 1979 I moved out to Los Angeles, California, and to an eight piece band playing clubs in the L.A. area. Whilst in America I played music with many people, some for a long time, some for a short time, but always for a good time. A few of these being Ritchie Hayward, Coco Montoya, Gregg Wright, Jimmy Z, Jesse Ed Davies and J.J. Cale.
In 1986 I moved down to San Diego and returned to acoustic blues with accomplished guitar and harmonica player Jeffery Joe Morin. 1988 brought another move, to the bluegrass state of Kentucky, to a log cabin in the woods. From there I maintained my musical endeavours playing blues and bluegrass from Nashville to Louisville and places in between. In 1998 I returned to England for a visit and formed Bluze the Band. This band played many fine gigs in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, recording two albums in that time. In the summer of 2006 Bluze disbanded....and I am now recording again under my own name, gigging with the" Rhythm Rats" as much as possible, playing music in a style that reflects my interpretation of the blues. A new venture with Thad Kelly.........'Backyard Music'...............
